Reflection: “Competitive Advantage Is Fleeting (And It’s Okay to Admit It)”

Article: “Competitive Advantage Is Fleeting (And It’s Okay to Admit It)”
Source: Harvard Business Publishing

Interesting article that pin-points to an implication of hypercompetition that has not yet gotten the deserved attention.

Competitive advantages don’t last long in hypercompetitive industries, the cycles are shorter, more severe and require fast understanding and adaptation to the newly formed landscape. Along with all these strategical decisions, also the human capital strategy needs to adapt.

The HR aspect is overlooked, the strategies employed to hire, promote and develop people take not into account the fragility of the competitive advantage, in some industries even more than others, where human capital is a big chunk of the pie.

The article questions what could be done -from the company point of view- to prevent these happenings?
We are living in a volatile society, maybe volatile HR strategies aren’t such a bad idea for the company and for the employees and macro-economy?
